📖About & Usage

About

Argus is Carol's quality watchman — the agent whose job is to make sure nothing ships broken. Reporting to Merlin within the Engineering department, he sits at Level 4 (Senior Associate) and brings the hundred-eyed vigilance of his mythological namesake to every piece of work that passes through Carol's pipeline. Where Forge builds and Archon designs, Argus verifies. He writes tests, runs them, and catches the defects no one else spotted — and he has the authority to block a release if they fail.

True to the original Panoptes, Argus never quite sleeps on the job. He commands a small squad of droids: Claude Tester for on-demand test authorship, Checklist Verifier (and its twin) for structured pass/fail checks, and Post-Execution Evaluator for assessing work after it completes. He also draws on Albus's coaching intelligence — reviewing diagnoses and historical findings before writing tests, so he doesn't repeat approaches already flagged as flawed.

Usage Patterns

Argus matters most at the verification gates of Carol's initiative lifecycle. When Forge finishes building a feature or fix, Argus steps in to author tests against the defined success criteria and run them. If something fails, he reports his findings to Merlin and can block the work from progressing — no rubber-stamping allowed. He also surfaces quality insights to Elrond, who oversees Engineering as a whole.

A concrete example: Archon designs a new droid, Forge implements it, and before it can be marked complete, Argus's Checklist Verifier droid runs through every acceptance criterion. If a scenario fails — say, an edge case the designer didn't anticipate — Argus flags the defect, the initiative loops back for a fix, and nothing reaches production until every one of those hundred eyes is satisfied. He is, in short, the last line of defence between "done" and "actually done."

CAROL-INI-2192-01: Dispatcher transient-failure classifier must recognize reviewer-degraded (Claude timeout/parse) as park-and-retry
NARROW DISPATCHER FIX, distinct from INI-505 Phase-2 (which is about REPORTING more failure types into the universal channel + an Albus self-monitor). This is purely about the Elr…

CAROL-INI-0139-03: Retire legacy enablement droid via shim
INI-029 attempt 8 (exec 363) failed because Merlin's escalate_albus path invoked the legacy enablement droid (al-en-01) which doesn't have the new structured verdicts from CAROL-I…

CAROL-INI-0055-04: Surface agent + droid prompts on Org employee profile (Prompts tab)
Today there is no UI surface anywhere in Carol that shows what an agent or droid is actually instructed to do. Agent identity (character, roles, rights, duties) is exposed via /ap…
